Postal Problems

Dear Editor,

It was with amusement that I read your article on the P.O. They say they don't have money for handicap ramps but when George B. became postmaster he built and furnished his private offices in every P.O. on the peninsula. They also acquired the chicken place in Rockaway Park and installed sur- veillance cameras to

watch the so-called

"trouble making" senior carriers. The Union requested copies of video to prove abuse and all the carriers were then moved to the older building. The only way Congressman Meeks can effect change is to bring a bill to Congress to extend protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act. Postal workers are not covered under this important act. This would aid workers in reporting waste, fraud, and abuse. Many senior carriers including myself have retired and I feel that training of new employees takes a back seat to budget considerations.
