Exhibition Exposes The 'Other Side'Of The Rockaways

The Citizens Committee for New York City introduces New Yorkers to the 'other side' of the Rockaways, with a compelling photo exhibition titled Rockaway: Images from the Rockaways and Broad Channel, by photographer Matthew Jensen.

Jensen exposes the sea-sprayed corner of the city to outsiders, and portrays what life in the Rockaways is like off-season, and off the beach. The photos reveal the essence of the neighborhoods through images such as brightly painted bungalows, undeveloped land, covered sailboats huddled together in empty lots, and lonely beach frozen in dead of winter.

The images are the product of Jensen's long walks through the streets, parks, boardwalks, and shorelines.

The photo exhibition is currently installed at the Citizens Committee's office, 305 7th Avenue, floor 15, on the West Side of Manhattan.

The exhibition will be on display Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until June 20.
