RAA Presents Russian Folk Art Exhibition
The Rockaway Artists Alliance presents a Russian Folk Art Exhibition at sTudio 6, from June 7 through June 22, with an opening reception to be held on Sunday, June 15 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The ethnographical club "Paraskeva," based in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia, is the first in its city to carry out the study and embodiment of the traditional experience of folk crafts in its hand-made pieces. The club conducts work on the study and reconstruction of ethnographical material and the reproduction of handicraft technologies. In the 1990s close collaboration began with the Russian Ethnographic Museum - one of the largest ethnographic museums of Europe. The results of this collaboration have been transformed into projects like "The Slavs of East Europe."
The "Rag-baby Festival" exhibition is the result of joint projects with the Russian Ethnographical Museum and presents precise copies of ethnographical dolls from the museum collection, author's costume dolls, the composition "Russian Wedding," and photographs of life and the way of life in Russian villages of the 19th century. All visitors will receive a guide to the production of the traditional ritual dolls of the different regions of Russia. Admission to the exhibition and events are free.
