EMS Workers Commemorate Fallen Colleagues
The week preceding Memorial Day is EMS Week, when we take the time to honor, remember, appreciate and thank the members of the Emergency Medical Service. Culminating the week is an annual bicycle ride to honor and remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty. The ride begins in New York at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx and concludes six days later at the National EMS Memorial Service in Roanoke, Virginia. This year there were nearly one hundred riders representing twenty-four of the fifty United States, as well as two riders from Ireland, honoring seventy-three inductees into the National Memorial. Taking part in this year's ride were three members of Rockaway's EMS Battalion, located on Beach 48 Street (left to right: EMT Stacey Aarons, Paramedic Rachel Victor, and Lieutenant Michael Sheridan).
