Passed Out Drunk Waiting For Red Light

By Nicholas Briano

ALong Beach man was arrested and charged with DWI after cops found him just feet away from the 100 Precinct, passed out drunk in his car while waiting at a traffic light.

Police sources say that patrol officers spotted Manuel Moreno, 45, in the driver's seat of a 1990 Lincoln with the engine running, at a traffic light on Rockaway Freeway near Beach 94 Street shortly after 9 p.m. on May 10.

According to police, when Moreno was awakened by the cops they found an open bottle of vodka in the car. In addition, he could not produce a driver's license when asked.

"I can't get arrested for another DWI," Moreno allegedly said, according to court papers supplied by Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Police transferred the heavily intoxicated Moreno to the department's Accident Investigation Division at the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills, where he refused a Breathalyzer test.

Court records show that Moreno, a repeat DWI offender, was last arrested in Nassau County on November 24, 2004.

Moreno was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license. He was released on $20,000 bail and is due back in court on May 29, a spokesperson for DA Richard Brown said.
