      The Rockaway Waterfront Alliance sponsored a bike trip through historic Rockaway last weekend. The ride included historical commentary by Rockaway resident Vivian Carter, as stops were made at 14 different sites along the route from Beach 10 Street to Riis Park.

Parks Department Cleans Up With Disney
      NYC Department of Parks and Recreation held "It's My Park Day" on Saturday, May 17. Close to 80 volunteers from corporate Disney/ABC spent the day cleaning, painting and recovering sand from the stairs and from under benches between Beach 9 and Beach 20 Streets.

      The staff of St. John's Episcopal Hospital held its First Ever Beautification Day on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Hospital staff planted flowers in the beds of trees newly installed by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. More than 40 of the Parks Department's trees ring the Hospital perimeter. Hospital departments adopted a flower bed to plant and care for.

Who Keeps Cutting Everyone's Tires?
      Some Rockaway Beach residents woke up on Monday morning to discover that someone slashed the tires of nearly every car parked on Holland Avenue between Beach 90 and Beach 84 Street. The avenue stretches only six blocks and is sandwiched between Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Shore Front Parkway.
