St.Virgilius/BCAC Pee-Wee Girls Defeat Gate OfHeaven

The St. Virgilius/BCAC Pee-Wee girls defeated St. Mary Gate of Heaven 11-6, to improve their record to 3 wins and 2 losses.

The hometown BCAC crowd, which included many mothers celebrating their special day, was treated to a great game. The Lady Shamrocks jumped out to an early lead in the first on an RBI single by Eireann Corbett (2 for 4), which scored Molly Day (2 for 4 and a walk) for a 1-0 lead.

The Shamrocks struck again in the third after a lead off triple by Kelsey Trudden was followed up by an RBI single by Kaitlin Courtney who was 2 for 4 one RBI on the day. Gate of Heaven stormed back and took a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Shamrock bats came alive. Gabriella Schirripa led off with a single, followed by a walk to Alison Moynihan. Katie Corbett then singled, scoring Schirippa from second. With runners on the corners, Kyrsten Kane came to the plate and singled, which scored Moynihan from third.

The Shamrocks were not done. Molly Day came to the plate with two runners in scoring position and blasted a two RBI single, to jump out to a 6-5 lead. Gate of Heaven fought back, and scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, 6-6.

However, the Lady Shamrocks would not be denied. Eireann Corbett led off the top of the seventh with a single, followed by walks to Barbara Bradford and Gabriella Schirippa. which loaded the bases.

That set the stage for Sydney McEneaney who drove in the go ahead run. After two more walks, Molly Day came to the plate and hit a two RBI single to extend the lead. Kelsey Trudden (3 for 3, two walks) then came to bat with the bases loaded and ripped a two run single to finish the five-run seventh.

Gate of Heaven had one more shot in the bottom of the seventh, but were shut down by pitcher Kelsey Trudden. The hurler had 11 strikeouts on the day as the Shamrocks won 11-6.

A fine defensive game was played by Carolyn Crocker at first base and outfielders Chloe McEneaney and Victoria Henglein. The Lady Shamrocks and the coaching staff would like to extend a special thank you to all the moms who spent their Mothers Day morning cheering us to victory.
