USO Needs Volunteers For Fleet Week

The United Services Organizations (USO) is encouraging the public to help kick off Fleet Week with the "Parade of Sail," on Wednesday, May 21 when all the ships parade along the banks of the Hudson River in New York City and the New Jersey shoreline. USO volunteers will work at welcome stations starting at 10:30 a.m. They will distribute American flags and signs welcoming the ships to the Big Apple at Pier 45, Christopher Street and West Street.

Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week New York is the city's celebration of the sea services. The annual event provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding tri-state area to meet sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team. Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.
