Pee-Wee Shamrocks Split Home & Home Against Sacred Heart

The BCAC/St. Virgilius Pee-Wee Shamrocks split a home and home double header this past weekend against Sacred Heart of Glendale.

Sacred Heart took the first game 9-2 on Saturday at Central Field in Glendale. The Lady Shamrocks' only runs of the day were driven in by Kaitlin Courtney who blasted a two-run homer. Eiranne Corbett also displayed fine defense at second base including a double play.

The Shamrocks returned to memorial field in Broad Channel on Sunday seeking revenge. The many fans in attendance were treated to a nail- biter. The Lady Shamrocks drew first blood in the second inning after Molly Day reached third after a single and a wild throw, which was followed up by an RBI single by Amanda Clarke, to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

The Shamrocks shut Sacred Heart down, led by a fine pitching performance by Kelsey Trudden who had 5 strikeouts and two put-outs. Eiranne Corbett, who had 8 put-outs, put on a great defensive performances along with Carolyn Crocker, who had 3 put-outs. In the top of the seventh inning, down to their final strike, Sacred Heart scored on a well hit homerun to tie the game at 1-1. The Shamrocks led off the bottom of the seventh with a single by Kaitlin Courtney who was 2 for 3 on the day.

Courtney advanced to second on a walk to Amanda Clarke. This set up t stage for Chloe McEneaney who drove in the game winning run with a ground ball to second and great base running by Caitlyn Courtney, who was safe after a close play at the plate. Final score Shamrocks 2, Sacred Heart 1. A great game was played by Sydney McEneaney, Katie Corbett, Victoria Henglein, Allison Moynihan, Kyrsten Kane 1 for 1, and Kayleigh LaVoun who was 1 for 1.

The Lady Shamrocks will look to continue their winning ways this Sunday, May 11 at 9:00 a.m. at home.
