Charged with the first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly restraining a girl in a Rockaway High School while fondling her, 11 counts of third-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and unauthorized practice of education law, Gershon Allweiss, 29, of 150-20 72 Road, Kew Gardens, Queens, is out on $1,000 bail (which he made).

Jamaica Bay Softball League began play last week. In the first week's action Grassy Point defeated Bridge I 4-3; Tubridy's wiped out Tom Murphy's 13-1; Blarney Castle squeaked by Irish Circle 6-5; and Bridge II shutout the Cuckoo's Nest 4-0.

Prince-Wynn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 260 is flying the casket flag of Sergeant Stanly Fiala, brother of Cecilia Fiala of Rockaway Park, from the post's memorial in Veterans' Memorial Park, Broad Channel.

Derron Israel of Beach Channel High School finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle swim in the National YMCA Championships in Orlando, Florida, last week, with a time of 21.24 seconds, a full second under the New York City high school record.

Things are slowly returning to normal along Seagirt Boulevard. The street was ripped open for the installation of sewers. After completion of the job there is hope that the boulevard will be ready for the heavy summer traffic.

Temple Beth-El of Rockaway Park sustained approximately $15,000 worth of damage on Friday, May 5, after what appeared to be a bizarre burglary. The temple was desecrated. Lights, stained glass, windows, candle holders, and religious objects were damaged.

Borough President Donald R. Manes has pledged his "continuing support of efforts to revitalize and upgrade the Rockaway Park commercial area."

Ed O'Malley, of Rockaway Beach, has been selected as the interim president of the newly formed Rockaway In- dependent Democrats.

40 Years Ago...

Construction on the piers of the new Cross Bay Bridge which rise above the present bridge now gives an idea of how much higher the new span across South Channel is going to be when it is completed.

Early season visitors at Rockaway's Playland are delighted with some of the park's new attractions.

Proprietors of businesses in the bay blocks of Beach 96 and 97 streets have posted signs advising their customers that their firms can be reached by coming in through the freeway.

If past experience counts for anything the firemen had better keep their fingers crossed against the possibility of a blaze getting started in the Arverne urban renewal area.

Barney Young glanced ruefully at the ruins of his ladies wear store on Central Avenue following Monday night's fire in the Chinese restaurant above the store. Mother's Day, coming on Sunday, would have made this one of the store's busiest periods of the year.

The death of Judge Samuel Seabury yesterday calls to mind the famous Seabury Investigation which gave way

50 to the Fusion Party and the election of Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia. Judge Seabury's appointment as investigator came as a result of a protest over the Marine (Largency) Park deal at Rockaway Park.

When the sirens sounded for the nation-wide air raid drill this week there was no confusion here. Everybody cooperated willingly.
