In preparation for the volleyball season, a critical date is fast approaching. The final RBVL pre-season meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. at the Kerry Hills Pub. The St. Virgilius/BCAC Pee-Wee girl's softball team began the 2008 season with an exciting 6-4 victory over St. Pancras at Central Field in Glendale on April 19. The Lady Shamrocks were led by pitcher Kelsey Trudden, who struck out 14 St. Pancras batters, singled and scored a run. More ... The BCAC/St. Virgilius Tyro softball team split a doubleheader against Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Whitestone last week. In the first game Blessed Sacrament would score two runs in the first inning and 5 runs in the fifth for a 7-0 St Virgilius loss. In the second game the girls would not allow Blessed Sacrament any slack. More ... Fishing this past week ran parallel to the weather; hot and cold. Prior to the full moon phase over the weekend the weather was mild and the fish responded. Flounder catches had been good and some of the fish toppled 2 pounds, which is not bad at all. More ... Far Rockaway High School's outdoor track team prepared for their visit to the historic Penn Relays by traveling last Tuesday to participate in the Vacation Meet at Curtis High School in Staten Island. The Christ the King all-star wasn't afraid to play in the Jordan Brand Classic and put on a display which was similar to the prowess he showed in the CHSAAAA League this past season. More ... 17-year-old Marcus Browne traveled great distances but the Rockaway native achieved his boxing goal of winning the 165-pound novice medal in the New York Daily News Golden Gloves last Thursday night. More ... The Peninsula Cup tension was high all across the pitches last week as it seemed every game came down to the final whistle. One of the most entertaining games was the battle between Girls 6-8 Celtic and Manchester United. The game featured a matchup of sisters.
