Fraiman Named To Dean's List
      Far Rockaway resident Talia Fraiman has been named to the dean's list at American University for the fall 2007 term. Fraiman, a senior in the School of International Service, is majoring in international studies. Located in Washington, D.C., American University enrolls a diverse student body from throughout the United States and nearly 140 countries.

Scholars'Academy Hosts Visiting Principal Network
      The Scholars' Academy shared its "Outstanding Quality Review" rating's underlying practices with principals from across the five boroughs on April 10. Kathy Pelles' Principal Network visited the Scholars' Academy to explore why and how the Scholars' Academy received an "outstanding" rating on the 2007- 2008 quality review.

      Lawrence Woodmere Academy Upper School will perform You're a Good Man Charlie Brown! on Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. The production, based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, is about an average day in the life of Charlie Brown.

Wrestling in the Rockaways
      On March 25, wrestling teams and coaches from Rockaway schools M.S. 225 and M.S. 105 visited the Scholars' Academy for their first three way wrestling match. Members of the three teams battled it out on the mat, giving it their all to try to pin down their opponent.

Local Receives Goldwater Scholarship
      Yehoshua Nechemia Laker of Far Rockaway has won a Goldwater Scholarship for his senior year at Queens College. He was chosen from 1,035 undergraduates nominated by college and university faculty across the country.

Local HS Student Wins Essay Contest
     Nanayaa Serwaa won the 5th Annual Rockefeller University Science Essay Contest with her essay titled "Why I want to be a Radiologist." Serwaa, a student in Far Rockaway High School's nursing assistant program, has been accepted to several prestigious colleges and has been offered up to $25,000 in scholarships to attend one of her choice schools. "The Wizard of Oz"At Public School 225
      The Seaside School's production of the "The Wizard of Oz" will be performed for the public on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. Students from grades 3 through 7 will star in the play under the direction of teachers Adam Funtleyder and Renee Palermo.Tickets are free, but seats are limited and will be given out on a first come first serve basis.
