Young artist Terrance Flynn and PS 114 Principal, Steven Grill, admire the paintings of the Eiffel Tower that Terrance and his mother created in the Parents As Art Partners workshop run by the RAA. RAA Education Director Christine Mullally reports the following: Camp kidsmART will be opening its doors again this summer! Many of our muchloved staff will be returning and a few enthusiastic new faces will join our crew. The foundations of camp- fun, friendship and creativity- remain the same.

Children will have the opportunity to participate in clay play, papier maché sculpture, painting, arts and crafts, nature walks, organized sports, games, music, dance, drumming, photography, environmental art, theater and more. Once again we will have Wacky Water Wednesdays, special theme events, Mismatched Duds Day, the Holly Rock Game Show, and more. On-site staff members are CPR and first-aid certified and cleared to work with children by the New York State Central Register.

This year, eligible campers must have finished kindergarten or be between six and twelve years of age. Registration forms will be mailed to families who attended camp kidsmART or the kidsmART after-school program in the past year. RAA will also mail registration forms to anyone who called our office to inquire about camp. We anticipate mailing the registration forms by April 12, allowing plenty of time before the public school Spring Break begins.

Camp kidsmART offers a limited number of scholarships every year. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please follow the directions on the registration form. Whether you are paying camp tuition or applying for a scholarship, returning your child's registration forms in a timely manner is essential. Every year camp fills up quickly. All applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

As always, one of RAA's goals is to offer meaningful employment to Rockaway youth. If you are a young person age fifteen years old, you may apply for an internship position. Internships are not paid and are only available to teens who are fifteen. This is a competitive process and spaces are limited, but we welcome your applications. For youth ages sixteen to nineteen, we offer em- loyment positions as Junior Counselors. This is also a competitive process with limited space, but again we are happy to send applications to eligible teens. If you are interested in receiving an application for either a position as a Junior Counselor or an Intern, please e-mail us at rockart116@aol.com, subject either "Junior Counselor" or "Intern," and include your name, age, date of birth, mailing address and phone number. Applications will be sent mid to late April.

"Structure 2," the one-night show of work by PS 114 students and their parents, was a huge success. RAA was happy to welcome so many first and second grade artists and their families to the sTudio 6 Gallery.

PS 114 Principal, Mr. Grill; Assistant Principals Mrs. Poggioli and Mrs. Engel; Parent Coordinator, Kathy Meade; Art Therapist, Debra Rice; First Grade Teacher, Mrs. Banks and Technology Teacher, Ms. O'Connell; RAA Program Director, Marina Callaghan; Education Director, Christine Mullally; and Board Member, Martha Elliott Killian were all in attendance to support the young artists and view their fine work.

Also in attendance was Painting Instructor, Nancy Cusack who led workshop participants through indepth drawing and painting projects featuring such architectural wonders as the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. Clay Instructor, Kalin Callaghan who skillfully guided the children and parents through the creation of Egyptian pyramids and masks was sorry to miss the exhibit due to a schedule conflict. Special thanks go to Parent Coordinator, Kathy Meade who dedicated much time, energy and enthusiasm to organizing the workshops and the exhibition. As always, RAA Board President, Geoff Rawling and Board Member, Thomas Burke's assistance in setting the show was greatly appreciated.

"Speaking to Power" is an outdoor sculpture exhibition of works by "14 Sculptors" that explores the powerful forces to which we are subject and the use of art to address them in a variety of responding modes. These equally powerful responses include awe, resistance, fear and humor. Among the participating artists is Esther A. Grillo, a longtime member of RAA and a highly respected New York artist whose work has appeared at prestigious venues that include P.S.1 Contemporary Arts Center. The group 14 Sculptors, has participated in several RAA exhibitions. The other sculptors in "Speaking to Power" are: Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprus, Caroline Hallas, Siena Porter and Herb Rosenberg.

The exhibit, sponsored in part by Rockaway Artists Alliance, is being presented by New Jersey City University on the lawn of the Visual Arts Building, Room B-08, 100 Culver Avenue, Jersey City. It is on view through mid September. For directions call 201- 200-3214.

An artists' talk is scheduled for Monday, April 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Culver Hall auditorium, followed by a tour of the exhibition with the artists.

RAA celebrates with longtime RAA Board Member Martha Killian on her very special day. Happy Birthday, Martha!
