Local Man DOA In OV Shooting

The facts of the shooting are clear. The first call to the 911 emergency system was made at approximately 2:47 p.m. on Wednesday that a man had been shot in the second floor hallway of 132 Beach 59 Street, in the Ocean Village housing complex on Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Police responding to the call found a 26-year-old man shot in the head. Police sources say that he was transported to Peninsula General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police sources on Thursday identified the dead man as Jemontt Williams, a Rockaway resident. Police officials immediately called for a Level I mobilization, which brought the NYPD's Queens South Task Force and its Emergency Service Unit to the scene. Patrols were conducted in all of the buildings in the Ocean Village complex and three spent shells were reportedly found in the hallway at the spot where the shooter had stood. Two firearms were recovered from the compactor room of 146 Beach 59 Street, another building in the complex. Police say that Willams had been arrested a total of 13 times, the last being December 10 of last year. Captain Brian McMahon, the CO of the 101 Precinct, reported at a meeting that two people were arrested nearby for criminal trespass, and that detectives are trying to determine if they were involved. "They're being questioned," he said. "They may have nothing to do with [the shooting]."
