Sullivan Announces Candidacy For Assembly Seat
Breezy Point resident Gerald Sullivan has announced his candidacy for the 23rd Assembly District seat. If successful, Sullivan's bid would oust a two-decade incumbent and send the challenger to Albany to represent most of the Rockaway Peninsula, Broad Channel, Howard Beach and a portion of Ozone Park.
"I stand ready to tackle the many issues that face each community throughout our district. State government should be more responsive to the needs of our senior citizens, children and families," stated Sullivan.
Sullivan, the son of a retired New York City Police Officer and the father of two young children, credits his own children with his decision to enter the race. "I'm running to give my kids a better future. I saw how my mom and dad struggled to pay the bills and raise my brothers and me. For me, it's my turn to give back," said Sullivan.
As Assemblyman, Sullivan hopes to champion issues that include placing more restrictions on violent sex offenders, parental school choice, lower taxes, keeping Medicare and Medicaid intact, and a host of other quality-oflife issues.
Congestion pricing is also a concern for Sullivan. "Before the city taxes commuters for using their cars during rush hours, our need for better bus and train services should be addressed. The people of Rockaway have been promised better service for years, but all we get is talk. It's time for a new State Representative, it's time for a change!" concluded Sullivan.
