NorthFork Theatre At Westbury
Live Nation presents Northern Irish songwriter, performer and music producer Phil Coulter and his concert orchestra on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
As a solo artist, Coulter is known for his best-selling albums, Classic Tranquility and Sea of Tranquility, which are all- time Irish best-sellers
Coulter's songwriting career took off after he formed a partnership with Bill Martin in the late 1960's. One of their first hits was "Puppet on a String," which became an international hit, with more than 100 cover versions. They had another hit with "Congratulations" by Cliff Richard. Together, both songs, they sold over ten million records. The duo continued to write successfully for artists that include Dana, Richard Harris and Elvis Presley.
In 1984, Coulter had the opportunity to record a solo album of tunes he had grown up, and gave them fresh arrangements and orchestrations. Within months, Classic Tranquility was the biggest selling album of all time in Ireland, outselling the Pope. Coulter went back to the studio and recorded Sea of Tranquility. It outsold his first solo effort, knocking it to second place of all-time Irish best-sellers.
In 1995, The Irish Rugby Football Union asked Coulter to write a politically neutral anthem for the Ireland national rugby union team, which represents both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The song was named, "Ireland's Call," and is played before the games.
During his career, Coulter had three personal invitations to perform at the White House from the President of the United States. He has twenty-three platinum records, thirty-nine gold and fifty-two silver albums. Coulter also had four sell-out visits to Carnegie Hall and marched at the head of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City with Mayor Giuliani.
