Local Mother Wins National Kosher Cook-Off
Joy Devor, a mother of six, substitute teacher and housewife from Far Rockaway was named Grand Champion of the Second Annual Simply Manischewitz Live Cook-Off at the New York Marriot Downtown. She competed against five other finalists in a live one-hour cooking competition. This event was the finale of three live regional cook-offs, which had 29 semifinalists - selected from more than 3,000 entries. It was Devor's Fantastic Flounder Rolls that beat the other award-winning recipes. She will take home a $25,000 grand prize package that includes a state-of-the-art GE Profile stainless steel kitchen.
The cooking event was hosted by The Food Network's David Rosengarten. He was joined by a panel of judges that included nationally recognized food media, celebrity chefs and award-winning authors. The National Simply Manischewitz Cook-Off was hosted in cooperation with GE, which provided ovens and technical support in addition to the grand prize package. The six finalists prepared their winning Kosher recipes that were required to use at least one Manischewitz product. The contestants reveal a diversified background; their professional and personal undertakings include a cardiologist, a financial services manager, a PhD Senior Scientist, a food blogger, an office manager and a mother of six.
