Weed and Seed Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.Day

Young people from the Arverne Church of God performed several thought provoking selections. Young people from the Arverne Church of God performed several thought provoking selections. The Baptist Pantry, near Redfern Houses, celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 21, with a Weed and Seed sponsored event. The theme of the day was "Redfern Remembers the Dream." The program was put together as an effort to rally residents to continue Dr. King's message of peace and unity.

Dr. Edward Williams, co-chair for Weed and Seed and President of the NAACP, was the Master of Ceremonies. Local participants included Les Paultre, Rockaway Beachside Neighborhood Association; SPUD, Positive Entertainment Network; Isaac Parsee, NYC Commission on Human Rights; and Minister Alfredo Hunte, Arverne Church of God.
