Making Waves

Commentary By Jane Deacy Republican State Committee Member, 23rd A

JANE DEACY JANE DEACY Two weeks after Super Tuesday and the Republicans have seemingly decided that John McCain will be the candidate to run, while the Democrats are still battling for turf with Barack Obama appearing to be catching a wave. Interesting times we live in. My co-leader, Eric Ulrich, was decidedly correct in his article, "The Mac is Back," when he stated that McCain was to be "…the dark horse to watch… " Eric and I had been busy staffing the polling sites, and for those who did work, I thank you. It is an extremely long day but hopefully you all found it rewarding.

It was indeed a Super Tuesday for all who joined the Rockaway Republicans at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club, when Chairman George Greco introduced Gerald Sullivan. His surprise announcement that he would be running for 23 AD Assemblyman in this upcoming November election took many by surprise. However, Eric Ulrich and I will tell you all that this is not a decision he made lightly or without considerable contemplation, and he is prepared to give it his all, Eric Ulrich and I were on hand to publicly endorse him and are pleased to inform the club that he has already received the endorsement of Queens GOP Chairman Phil Ragusa and the executive committee. We are thrilled to have Gerald Sullivan on our team and we have pledged our support to help him go all the way.

Gerald Sullivan is concerned with the lack of infrastructure within the district. "New home building is great for our community, and the government needs to address what must accompany these new homes. More homes, more people, should mean more schools, or parental choice, more shopping, and what about better mass transit." We will certainly be hearing more from Jerry Sullivan and I invite you all to join us at the Rockaway Republican Club, which meets at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club located at Beach 126th Street and Beach Channel Drive, on the second Tuesday of each month, March 11, April 8 and May 13. Bring your concerns and solutions to the problems of Rockaway, at a meeting where you will meet other concerned Republicans. The Ronald Reagan Republican Club of Howard Beach will be having its next meeting on February 25, 7:30 p.m. at the Old Mill Yacht Club on Cross Bay Boulevard. The Angelo Graci Club holds its meeting on February 26, 8 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church Parish and Community Center at 86 Street and 101 Avenue, Ozone Park. You will get an opportunity to meet Gerald Sullivan at each of these meetings.

I now am asking you to consider how and in what capacity you, too, can help the Queens Republicans change the course that we have been on for way too long. Local government depends on grassroots efforts and I will be calling on you all to assist us in this campaign. This is also a year that Republican Senator Serphin Maltese, a Senator for 20 years, serving in Senate District 15, will be in need of our help as his seat represents the majority of the Republican State Senate. It is important for all Republicans to be involved if we are going to hold onto a majority in the State Senate.

Eric Ulrich and I were elected on September 18, 2007 to serve as your District Leaders. As leaders we have tried to staff poll sites with Republican inspectors. If you are interested in serving in that capacity, please be in touch with me at rockawayrepublicans@ nyc.rr.com or 718-318-1515. We have started a third club within the Assembly District in Howard Beach so that all Republicans have an opportunity to be updated and get involved locally. We have been diligent in assisting Republicans who care to run for office, and presently we have Gerald Sullivan running for Assembly. It is our job to educate the public as to what it means to be a Republican, as many people are surprised to learn that Abraham Lincoln is the father of the Republican Party and registration drives are being planned throughout the district, so we may build our base.

This presidential election is historic in that we have the first female as well as the first Caucasian, African- American vying for their party's endorsement. If we as a nation cho to decide who the better candidate based on gender or race, then we w probably deserve what we get. The will be a time in our history when female will be president and I belie there will be a time in our histo when there will be a person of a min ity race as president, but I do n believe that this is the time. McCa needs to reach out and I think he w convince the nation that he can deliv and lead us all in a United States America. As a real estate broker often tell people to make a list of pr and cons about a property that th might be considering buying. I sugg that each and every one of you do t same about the USA, and if you are unhappy here, then I would sugge as I say in real estate," "that you ke looking!" Have a great day.
