Men Are Rude

Dear Editor,

As an A train rider, I found that men are just rude when they sit down with their legs wide open forcing one or two other seats to remain empty. I hope it is not a physical problem where their private parts are forcing the legs to be as wide open as possible. I have been riding the A train for 30 years and this is sort of new. So far, I see only men and young men do this practice of sitting with their legs totally open. Women do not do the spread your legs thing.

Today, on the A train going to Manhattan, a young man was sitting on the third seat of the three seats that is next to the two seats together. I try to sit in the second seat in the two seats that is the one not by the window. Due to this guy's legs, he had one of his feet directly where I would put my own feet.

So, he was taking up that seat plus the seat next to him was empty due to his other leg was very spread out. So I say "Excuse Me" but he did not think I was talking to him. Then I point at his foot and he moves it like one inch. I was then able to sit in my seat with my feet in the normal place. He still had his legs wide open so the middle seat was empty. More passengers get on.

Two girls are standing over him and the empty seat, one looks pregnant. Still he does not move his legs. Finally, he gets off and the two girls sit down. I find that this rude behavior is now the norm of the A Train. Men of all colors and ages are practicing this. Why do these men make an effort to be rude? Whatever happened to common courtesy? I beg the men to stop being so rude and sit normally with your legs closed.
