Nature Preserve First, Then Development

Dear Editor,

This letter is in regard to an article published in "The Wave" Friday, January 18, page 38, headlined: "Nature Preserve Coming Only If Arverne East Is Built."

The article features material presented by Susan Fine, the Executive Vice President of Arverne East Development, LLC, at the January 7, 2008 Community Board Meeting. The well prepared presentation, about the visitors/office building in the Nature Preserve, also referred to as "Central Park", had not been listed on the agenda.

The above headline sums up what was said in response to questions on the

And, what was said contradicts the following, and I quote: "Construct Central Park, prior to development, according to the specs and description outlined in the FEIS."

Go to: http://www.nyc.gov/html/hpd/downloads/ pdf/rfp-arverne-east-exhibits-ai. pdf, where this requirement is stated on page 35.

This factual information was shown to [CB 14 district manager] Jonathan Gaska in print by an attending resident.

Gaska did not bring it to the attention of the Board and the residents.

Can the Community Board 14 board members - described as "typically tough group" in the above mentioned Wave article - not insist that the requirement to build the Nature Preserve prior to development is met?

I conclude this letter with a request to the Community Board to submit the agenda for the monthly Board meeting to "The Wave" for publication.
