Second Mystery Arverne DOA Found
Abullet-riddled, partially decomposed body was found in an empty Arverne lot last Saturday morning, police sources say.
An unidentified passer-by made the grisly discovery of the body under a bush in a lot on Beach Channel Drive near Beach 45 Street just after 11 a.m. on February 9, police say.
This was the second body found in that Arverne vicinity since the New Year.
The man was shot several times, but police would not speculate on how long the body was in the lot, whether or not he was shot there, or the cause of death.
Ellen Borokove, a spokesperson for the New York City Medical Examiner's office, told The Wave that her office had yet to determine either the identity of the male or the cause of death, but that tests were going to be done early next week to determine those facts.
Detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad in Far Rockaway are also investigating.
The body found on Beach 45 Street on Saturday was the second dead body mystery for the area in the past two months.
On January 14, another dead male was found under the subway tracks at Beach 44 Street, on the Rockaway Freeway, about three blocks from the empty lot where Saturday's body was discovered.
Last week, the body was identified as Rajesh Binda, a 30-year-old Rockaway resident. The Chief Medical Examiner has yet to provide a cause of death for Binda, however.
Speculation at the time was that he was drunk and either fell or was pushed from the staircase to the subway, but a spokesperson for the ME would neither confirm nor deny that speculation.
Police in the 101 Precinct did say, however, that Binda's death had been classified as an accident, but Borokove declined to confirm that contention.
