Shots Fired Through Window Of FR School
PS 253 Principal Robin Johnson was horrified when she arrived at the school on Wednesday, February 6 and found that two of the second-floor windows in the Far Rockaway school had been shattered by gunfire in the early hours of the morning.
Johnson called the 911 emergency system and police officers from the 101 Precinct responded, shutting off the classroom where the bullets finally landed, sources say.
In a letter to parents, Johnson appeared surprised by the incident.
"Here at PS 253 we are committed to insuring that our school is safe, secure and orderly, she wrote. "Our positive environment allows us to make sure that teaching and learning takes place every day. Safe, supportive school environments depend on faculty, staff and parents demonstrating mutual respect."
According to police sources, the shots were fired into the school, located at 1307 Central Avenue, sometime during the night, most likely between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
There were no students or staff in the building at the time of the incident, police say.
Detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad are investigating.
