Peninsula Hospital Center and Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (PCECR) have, for the past two years, singled out distinctive individuals each month as their Outstanding Employees. These special employees have been honored for their high degree of professionalism, respect, initiative and for the dedication and empathy that they routinely demonstrate in the performance of their duties.

This year, the Hospital Center has instituted an Employee Excellence Award, which will be presented quarterly to outstanding employees who have been nominated by their peers and confirmed by committee for this honor.

The first Employee Excellence Awards were presented last week. Diane Pennisi, a Patient Access Associate from the Admitting Department of the Emergency Room, Pennisi has been employed by Peninsula Hospital Center for more than 20 years. She is highly thought of by her fellow workers and administrators alike. One thing that everyone agrees on is that she "gets the job done." Pennisi takes on special tasks and follows through with the utmost efficiency and professionalism. She consistently demonstrates the highest level of respect when dealing with patients and other staff members and is admired for her compassion.

Glenda Gittens is a Certified Nurse Assistant who works on 2 Bay of PCECR. She was named an Employee of Excellence because she always "goes the extra mile" for all of the residents with whom she works, and for the professional and respectful manner in which she deals with the families of those assigned to her. Her supervisor singled out Gittens to be nominated for this honor, because the residents gravitate to her kindness and she follows through on their care, even if they are transferred to other floors. In summary, Gittens was honored as an outstanding employee this quarter because of her dedication to her profession and her commitment to each of the residents she serves.

The Employee Excellence Program is designed to recognize valued employees who consistently exemplify an exceptional quality of work, the ability to work as part of the Peninsula Hospital Center team, and because they exhibit excellence in their interactions with patients, other staff, visitors, physicians and the community.
