Last week, I got the chance to see the newly opened Hope Lodge at the American Cancer Society's Manhattan office. I was there for a meeting to be briefed on the 2008 legislative initiatives by ACS Can. I had no idea I would be seeing this incredible place.
I had come to their office after a particularly stressful day at work, but immediately upon walking into the Hope Lodge, I felt at ease.
The New York City Hope Lodge is one of many around the country sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Each patient must be referred by a social worker, and his or her place of treatment must be over an hour from his or her home. The New York City Hope Lodge opened its doors in November of 2007. It can house up to 120 people at a time. Every detail has been meticulously thought of to create a true sanctuary for each person fighting his or her illness. It was inspiring to see the support that would be received by coming to the lodge. After the tour I felt very at ease. The stress of the day just fell away. Please see www.cancer.org for more information about the NYC Hope Lodge.
The 2008 Roxbury Saint Patrick's Day Party is almost here!! The event being held at the Mayor's Committee on March 8 will have the usual Irish Shenanigans. See you then!!
