Will Wonders Ever Cease

Dear Editor,

Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer wants the taxpayers to pick up the tab for deadbeat homeowners who can't pay their mortgages. I used to live in a yellow submarine but I now live in a four and one-half room apartment. Should my hard earned tax dollars be used to subsidize someone who lives in a $500,000 house?

I wonder how homeowners who pay their mortgages (and many find that it is a difficult monthly chore) feel about this.

Of course the legislator blames the "questionable practices of lenders." Does it ever occur to Mrs. Pheffer that borrowers lie on mortgage applications about their income and other things in order to get the lenders to give them money? Needless to say, borrowers are locals who vote in primaries; lenders live in Fargo, North Dakota and don't vote in contests for Queens Borough President (sarcasm intended).

Possibly our representatives in Albany ought to get real jobs and see what people have to do to earn a living and pay taxes. Earning is tough, giving money away is easy.
