We Need More Manpower
The following letter was written to Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly. Dear Editor,
I write in dismay that the 101 Police Precinct in Far Rockaway will not receive any additional manpower out of the graduating class in the upcoming year.
As you already know, the 101 Precinct was one out of five precincts citywide that has seen a dramatic increase in crime during 2007. According to the Compstat Unit, there was a 9.15 percent increase in crime overall on the peninsula, which was the highest in the city. Although I am aware of the slight drop in crime in the areas of murder, rape, and robbery, I am still concerned about the safety of my constituents.
Already in January 2008, there has been multiple reported murders and shootings, leaving my community to ponder what the rest of the year will entail. I have received numerous calls regarding the scarcity of police officers that are seen in our most troubled areas. Furthermore, I am aware that more of our veteran officers are retiring in upcoming months and the precinct is in desperate need of additional manpower.
Therefore, I am requesting that you assign additional officers to the 101 Precinct as soon as possible. Our community is in need and entitled to additional resources due to the sad rash of violence we continue to endure.
