Newport Ave.Fire Sends Two To Hospital

Except for a clean-up crew, all was quiet at 120-13 Newport Avenue on Wednesday evening, very different from that morning, when members of the FDNY responded

to an all hands, onealarm fire that brought 12 units and 60 firefighters to the twostory frame home. The fire was called in to the 911 emergency system at 10:42 a.mm, and was contained to the first floor. By the time it was deemed under control, 19 minutes later, two civilians had been transported to Peninsula Hospital Center with minor injuries. They were reportedly treated and released at PHC. No firefighters were hurt during the ordeal. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it was not considered to be of suspicious origins.

In addition to windows on the first floor being boarded up, some on the second floor and in the attic were also covered after firefighters knocked them out during the fire.
