The Annual RAA Wurtsboro Adventure falls this year on the weekend of March 8, 9 and 10. Sharing art, new friendships, the beauty and quaintness of an upstate New York town and the new gallery space of the recently formed Wurtsboro Art Alliance, RAA will once again spend a getaway weekend just two hours from the city.

We have been invited to open the spring season of this main street gallery with our own show. We can hang all our own artwork and there will be a "poetry reading" evening on Saturday, March 8. RAA is encouraged to enhance the evening with our own poets and our own live music. There is no gallery fee for that weekend, only a 20% commission on any sales.

"Room and board" at Valley Brook is being made available to RAAmembers in either heated rooms or heated cottages. This includes use of the main hall with fireplace and kitchen for our own gatherings.

Valley Brook is a lodge with surrounding cottages, owned by our good friend Tim Bracci and his daughter Donna, our hostess. It is situated in a scenic area of the Catskills not far from Ellenville in one direction and the Delaware River in the other.

Please contact the office ASAP if you are interested in coming and for further details. Rooms and cottages need be booked.

Call to inform the office if you need to be carpooled or are offering it; night(s) you wish to stay; and preference for cottage or room.

Bring artwork, musical instruments and warm clothes. Children and pets are welcome.

RAA member book alert: please contact, immediately if not sooner, Joan Boudreault if you are interested in participating in a "Best of RAA" book of artwork and biographies: phone: (718-945-4048) or by e-mail: (jboudrea ult@eliteny.com).

Last Saturday's Gallery Sitter's Event was very entertaining and informative, and had a little something for everyone. (As of this writing, the Sunday event has not yet taken place.) "Birdman" Denis Macrae, the day's sitter, gave the "inside" story on bird watching in the Philippines. In his thorough discussion, he showed the audience birds unfamiliar to those of us not living in that part of the world, with many of the species' variations, and revealed how to locate them. Martha Killian read several original poems, each one related to one of her watercolors, thus giving the listener a multi-faceted exposure to the artwork. Shirl Holt read her poetry, as did two of her colleagues. One of them came all the way from the North Bronx, revealing that he sometimes writes his poetry during train rides. Inspiration in the clang of metal. Wave columnist and author, Liz Guarino, expanded on four sad and funny real-life stories from her column, "Broad Channel Bits." RAA thanks all who brought their rich experiences and talents to sTudio 6, and to those wonderful supporters who attended the event. Come back soon.

"Get Out of Town" Spotlight:

By profession Lee Gutman is in information technology. (He is the middleman for technology companies and the personnel they will hire.) But his passion is taking photographs - wherever he travels, whether it is Wales or Israel or Barcelona, Spain. Photographs of the things that interest him or catch his eye or his imagination. In a park in Barcelona, it was the architecture that intrigued him.

In his photograph, "Winding Cave," Gutman manages to render both monumental and intimate, the grandeur and sweep of stone.
