Far Rockaway Student Wins Scholarship
Far Rockaway resident Claudette Gomez, a student at the High School of Economic and Finances, has been named a recipient of a prestigious scholarship to attend Vassar College. She won the scholarship through the National College Match, an admissions program run in partnership with 20 top American colleges. Gomez has been guaranteed a four-year scholarship worth over $160,000, which will cover tuition, and room and board.
Gomez, who is planning to study Law at Vassar, won the scholarship by filling out a 20-page application with several essay and short answer questions.
Her application to National College Match was then reviewed by Quest- Bridge, a foundation in Palo Alto, CA, which matches talented low-income students with elite colleges.
"Claudette embodied the ideals of a College Match student," said Tim Brady, QuestBridge's CEO. "She's passionate.
She's public service minded. She will do great things at Vassar College."
