NC Cops Bust Arverne Man

Charged With Kidnapping, Sexual Assault

An Arverne man who found his way into North Lawrence and allegedly attempted to kidnap a young woman at gunpoint in late December was arrested this week by Nassau County Detectives, according to police sources.

The perpetrator, identified by police as Wayne Robinson, 25, was arrested at his 71-17 Beach Channel Drive home on Wednesday, January 2 and charged with second degree kidnapping and first degree criminal use of a firearm, according to Nassau County Police.

The arrest came a week after the alleged kidnapping on December 21. Police say that Robinson was hitching a ride on the side of the road at 7:00 p.m. in North Lawrence, when the unidentified victim, 21, driving along Rockaway Turnpike, saw him flagging her car down.

The victim, who claims to have recognized her kidnapper as someone whom see had seen in the neighborhood before, stopped for him and he asked her for a ride to Inwood, police say.

After the victim allowed Robinson into the car he allegedly pulled out a gun and ordered her to drive to Brooklyn, where he sexually assaulted the victim in her car. Immediately after the attack, the victim reported the crime to Nassau detectives who began working on the case.

Robinson was arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hemstead, but Nassau County detectives said they are also still working with the NYPD for possible criminal charges against Robinson for his alleged sexual assault of the victim in
