Happy 2008. May It Be A Year Of Prosperity, Health And Enjoyment
I did not get a chance to send my usual cards and wishes this year due a stay in the NYU Medical Center for over 10 days. I wasn't released until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. No cards or paper wishes or emails went out, but I still wish all of you the best for the holidays and the coming year. Do, however, keep in touch. I was so delighted to hear from Kay Salica.

Practice leads to the goal of becoming good at that which you are attempting to accomplish. This year, I intend to practice a tradition that I found laudable from the culture of a tribe in South Africa.

Bathing Suits 101 - One Hundred and One Years Ago, That is!
Compared to modern bathing attire, which is rather cheeky - butt nice, the over a century bathing attire was often referred to as a cover-up! And indeed it was, as the moral codes were entirely different, and completely/ strictly enforced by the law in Rockaway Beach and Far Rockaway.

Black Out The Yankees? Never Again
When Jimmy Dolan and Cablevision, in all of their arrogance, blacked out the Yankees for a full season in 2002, I vowed to make sure it could never happen again. But because Cablevision has a 10-year franchise agreement with the city, I knew I would have to bide my time.

What The Wave Said 20 Years Ago... What started with adjoining drivers making comments that could not be heard in the other cars ended up the morning of December 24 with one man having his bumped-around car stolen. Jeremy Newman, 62, who was shot on Tuesday, December 29, about 5 p.m., near his home in Bayswater, is in stable condition in St.

A Bit Of Color This Time Of The Year
In a dreary month like January, the winds are high, the air is cold, and our gardens are bare. We are all in need of some color and warmth. The perfect houseplant to add to our collection at this time of year is the bromeliad.

Democracy Begins At Home
Are you as tired as I am? I mean of the seemingly interminable presidential campaign, of course. I planned to write a bit about the current crop of front-runners and where they stand this week but, after thinking about it, I realized I didn't have anything new I wanted to say.
