Click Here for More Information Springfield Gardens Trips Up Lady Seahorses For many stretches of their game at home against Springfield Gardens, the Far Rockaway Lady Seahorses played poor, lacked cohesion and committed many mental mistakes. Despite this, the Lady Seahorses had cut the deficit to a few points in the fourth quarter against their PSAL B divisional rival. The Seahorses made a valiant charge but their lack of precision in the first three quarters came back to haunt them. The Golden Eagles held on as they improved to 6-2 on the season by defeating Far Rockaway, 53-49. Though Quenise Holland scored 36 points for the Lady Seahorses, the Seahorses did not display the energy or passion required for a game between two teams who entered the game at 5-2. Seahorses' coach Les Sabbah said his team forced shots on offense and allowed Springfield Gardens to make uncontested layups. Those were some of the keys to their downfall. Alexandria Eastman led Springfield Gardens with 20 points. "It was disappointing to see how we came out to play. Real disappointing. This was a very painful loss to a team that simply outworked us all game," Sabbah, whose team fell to 5-3, said. With a game remaining at presstime against Queens High school of Teaching, Sabbah is looking for his team to eradicate the repetitive errors that have been cornerstones of their defeats. "We just got outworked, out-hustled in the first half, dug us a grave and we a made a valiant effort to comeback. But it was all kind of unnecessary." Dolphins Finally Win Beach Channel boys basketball coach Jim Malone can finally relax now. The Dolphins who lost their first six games of the PSAL AA season, finally broke the streak with a 50-49 road victory over Flushing High School last Tuesday. Yaquis Moss scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds as the Dolphins beat winless Flushing (0- 7). The Dolphins maintained a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter when Jonathan Herrera (26 points) led the charge, cutting the Dolphins lead to 3 points with under 10 seconds remaining. Freshman guard Kevin Marmolejos made out of two free throws to extend the lead to 50-46 with five seconds left. Malone is coaching a young team on the floor with little experience. "We're very young. We're making steps to improve but it takes time," Malone said. Cashen Makes Yale Declaration Midwood High School girls' varsity player, Michelle Cashen made a verbal commitment to Yale University last week.
The Rockaway native is in her senior year with the Hornets and is averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. The 6-foot senior scored a game high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Midwood (4-2) handed Thomas Jefferson(7-1) their first defeat of the season, 61-58, last Wednesday afternoon.
