Stop The Violence Basketball Tournament Finishes Off In Style

S.T.V.B.T founder Curtis Williams with John Jones, who won the Sportsmanship Award.
The fourth Annual Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament at NYCHAHammel Community Center finished with a bang last Saturday afternoon. Playing in front of 200 fans (most of them from Brooklyn), Team $how & Prove (14 & Under), The NYC Panthers (12 & Under), Team Hammel (10 & Under) were crowned this year's champions.

The day kicked off to a great start with Team $how & Prove beating the Da B.K. Ballers to win their second straight championship in a row. Game two saw the NYC Panthers finish their season with a perfect 12-0 record by defeating the Da B.K. Ballers for their first-ever championship trophy.

Game three saw the Cinderella team of the tournament, Team Hammel defeat last year's champion, Da B.K. Ballers.

Coach Curtis Williams, with tears in eyes, said, "I never witness a group of children work so hard, they never gave up on their selves."

After each game, the teams received their trophies; also several players received special recognition trophies for their excellent school work; and sportsmanship. The day finished with the tournament founder and former center director, Curtis Williams, receiving a touching farewell from the Da B.K. Ballers and their parents.

Team $how&Prove hold their title trophies.
After spending two years at Beach 41 Street Community Center and 13 years at Hammel Community Center, Williams has moved on to take a promotion. But don't worry. Williams says he has promised to come back for the fifth Annual Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament in September of 2008.
Clad in their orange uniforms, Team Hammel were crowned the 10 and under champions.
The 12 and under NYC Panthers team finished the tournament undefeated.
