Rockaway Ravens Represent New York City In Apple Youth Football Championship

The Rockaway Ravens were one of ten teams from New York City to participate in the American Youth Football National Championship Tournaments held from December 1 to December 8, in Kissimmee, Florida.

Teams from all over the country came to compete in the week-long tournament at Austin Tindall Park.

The Big Apple Youth Football League had a huge presence at the championship tournament.

Four of the five boroughs sent a total of 10 teams to compete for the Division 1 and Division 2 National Championships on the Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Jr. Midget, and Midget classes.

Sending teams were: The Staten Island Hurricanes - 4 teams, the Springfield Rifles - 2 teams, the Rockaway Ravens, the Bronx Wildcards, the Brooklyn Renegades and the Brooklyn Titans.

Also in attendance to provide support for the NYC teams were coaches from the Brooklyn Chiefs and the Jamaica Bulldogs.

At the end of the week of competition, the Staten Island Hurricanes Midget Team was the Division 2 National Champions.

The Rockaway Ravens Midget Team was the Division 1 Runner - up. The Staten Island Hurricanes Jr. Midget Team was the Division 2 Runner up and the Staten Island Hurricanes Pee Wee Team was the Division 1 third place finisher.

The Springfield Rifles Jr. Pee Wee Team was the Division 1 third place finishers and the Staten Island Hurricanes Jr. Pee Wee team was the Division 2 third place finishers.

The results indicate that youth football is alive and well in New York City. Our young men proved that they can compete and succeed on a national level. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents on a job well done!
