Sanders Offers Free Anti-Foreclosure Program

Councilman James Sanders is bringing free foreclosure services to the community in an effort to prevent locals from losing their homes.

Sanders is collaborating with Parodneck Foundation to provide this free service to all residents within his district. Homeowners can go to Sanders' Laurelton office at 226-18 Merrick Boulevard for free advice if they are in jeopardy of being foreclosed upon.

The City Councilmember feels that Queens is in desperate need of a service like this, considering that the borough has seen a 200 percent increase in the number of foreclosure filings since July, 2006.

Sanders urges everyone to come out and take advantage of the program and learn how to save their homes.

"I am outraged by what predatory lenders and their unscrupulous practices are doing to my community," Sanders said. "This service is just phase one of our fight to aid our neighbors who have been victimized and preyed upon.

According to Sanders, an estimated two million adjustable rate mortgages are scheduled to be reset at higher interest rates by the end of 2008, and Sanders hopes his proactive approach will save many Queens and Rockaway residents from losing their properties.
