Pepper Steppers Step Up To Speed Champions At Apollo

At the World Famous Apollo Theater, Far Rockaway's own Stan's Pepper Steppers once again took many top honors at the 16th Annual Double- Dutch Holiday Classic on Sunday, December 2.

The Pepper Steppers out of Sorrentino Recreation Center coached by Stan Brown along with his daughter Yatte Brown, are one of the world fastest teams in the sport of Double-Dutch and proved to be the best for the 9th year in a row in the speed category.

Stan's Pepper's Steppers once again captured top honors in the speed category with over 400 jumps in the required two-minute test, in which only the left foot is counted, averaging three steps per second.

In the athletic competition, the teams are judged on compulsory format and speed test. Teams duel each other for 1st thru 5th place awards. The other part of this classic tournament is called fusion.

Fusion routines are performed by different teams in dance and tricks within and out of the Double-Dutch ropes. Upon the decision of the fusion judges, one of the advanced teams will be designated "Best of Show".

The Pepper Steppers finished fifth out of 12 teams in the advanced division in the "Best of Show" category.

Team members who performed at the Apollo Theater were as follows: Kyana Bartow, Laa'Neisha Jones, Peter Alvarez, Katherine Rocha, Alaisyia Woodard, Nadine Harrison, Jessica Berrios, Robeishia Davis, Jasmin Hamlet and Destiny Alvarez. Coaches, Officials and Chaperones: Stan Brown, Linda Brown, Yatte Brown, Carol Walker, Rudy Callender and Lorraine Ramsey.

The Pepper Steppers would also like to thank; the team members, coaches, chaperones, officials, parents and friends of the team members and the Far Rockaway community. Without your support and contributions, these accomplishments wouldn't be possible. Thanks.
