New York State Police Exam

Major Michael A. Kopy, of the New York State Police, announces that over 4,000 qualified applicants from New York City have signed up for the upcoming New York State Trooper exam.

Interested applicants must apply before December 1.

The exam is only given every 3 to 4 years. The last exam given was in March 2004. The exam will be offered at several locations throughout New York State on January 19, January 26, February 2, and February 9, 2008. Interested candidates have less than 2 weeks left to apply. The website offers an inside look into the New York State Police and gives viewers the ability to see the many different opportunities offered by the New York State Police.

Currently, a trooper's starting salary is $50,374 during Academy training. The salary reaches $61,525 upon completion of 26 weeks of training at the Basic School, and after one year, climbs to $65,357, then to $77,218 after five years. There are also additional increases during the first five years of service, and longevity increases beyond five years of service.
