Rita Rudner At North Fork Theatre, 12/7
After hanging up her dancing shoes to take up comedy in the 1980s, Rita Rudner, who has a history of sold-out shows, became a regular on "The Johnny Carson Show." Her first solo HBO special, "Rita Rudner's One Night Stand", was nominated for two Ace Awards. She has recorded several awardwinning comedy specials, most notably "Rita Rudner: Born To Be Mild" and "Rita Rudner: Married Without Children" for HBO. Rudner made Friars Club history when she became the first woman comic ever invited to be a "roaster," at the "Roast of Chevy Chase." She made an appearance in HBO's first "Women of the Night" comedy special, where she was one of the four honored comediennes. In 1990, Rudner won the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-Up, and three years later, she earned a nomination for Best Comedy Album for her best-selling book on tape, "Naked Beneath My Clothes." She also wrote the novels "Tickled Pink" and "Turning The Tables" (2006).
Since 2001, Rudner has performed almost exclusively in Las Vegas, selling nearly one million tickets. She is currently contracted to perform at Harrah's through January 2010, and has recently created and hosted the syndicated television show, "Ask Rita." The show mimics the format of a talk/advice show, and won a Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Television and Radio.
