Bishop Kearney Finishes Sixth At Cross Country Championships
The 2 ½ mile course was in excellent condition for a fast and competitive race as Kearney was one of the top 21 CHSAA cross-country teams to compete. Mullen was on a mission to qualify for the state championship next week and to become a member of the exclusive 16 minutes club. She accomplished both by finishing in 13th place and qualified for the state championships with a blazing time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds. Mullen became only the fourth Bishop Kearney runner to go under the 17-minute barrier. Mary Gallagher, a junior runner from Belle Harbor, finished with a time of 17 minutes 24 seconds. "Queen" Mary's 37th place was good enough to be awarded a medal and earn a trip to the state championship.
She sprinted across the finish line in 17 minutes, 36 seconds to secure a medal and the last runner to qualify for the state championship. Sarah Donahue (Belle Harbor) was absolutely awesome as the junior shattered her personal record in a time of 18 minutes 28 seconds. Donahue's gutsy performance was instrumental in the Kearney's team outstanding sixth place finish in the city championship. Christina (Queen of the hills) Hiltunen was determined to run fast from start to finish. She set her personal best in 18 minutes, 36 seconds. Halima (The Hammer) Judeh improved by breaking the 19 minute barrier for the first time in her career with a time of 18 minutes 45 seconds. Team captain Elizabeth (The Ridge Rocket) Monohan made the difference in setting a new team record for the 7- girl team average of 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Congratulations to the team on a very successful season winning as they won the Brooklyn championship. Kearney also won third place in the Brooklyn/ Queens CHSAA championship, sixth place in the city championship.
The team would like to wish the best of luck to the three runners, who qualified for the state championship.
