Sanders To Launch Foreclosure Program

Councilman James Sanders Jr.
Councilman James Sanders Jr., in collaboration with Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica, is providing free services for homeowners facing foreclosure. The service will be based in Councilman Sanders' Laurelton office, located at 226-18 Merrick Boulevard.

Queens is the hardest-hit borough, showing a 200 percent increase in the number of foreclosure filings from July 2006 to July 2007. An estimated 2 million adjustable rate mortgages are scheduled to reset by the end of 2008, many going from a low introductory rate to a higher rate. The foreclosure program will focus on

what foreclosure is, how to avoid it, predatory scams and legal rights of homeowners. "I am outraged by what predatory lenders and their unscrupulous practices are doing to my community," stated Sanders. "This service is just phase one of our fight to aid our neighbors who have been victimized and preyed upon." Sanders urges all affected homeowners to join him and learn how to save their homes.
