Detectives Seek Info On Belle Harbor Hit And Run
By Howard Schwach

Detectives from the 100 Precinct Squad are asking for the public's assistance in solving a hit and run vehicle accident that happened in Belle Harbor on the evening of November 5.

Detectives say that Jay Buttafuco, 56, and legally blind, was crossing the street at the southeast corner of Beach 128 Street and Newport Avenue when he was struck by what eyewitnesses say was a black sport utility vehicle.

Police sources say that the vehicle that hit Buttafuco fled eastbound on Newport Avenue without even stopping to see if the victim was injured.

The victim, who walks with the aid of a cane, is currently in critical condition and on life-support machinery.

Anybody with information about the hit and run is urged to call the 100 Precinct Detective Squad at 718-318- 4222. All information will be kept confidential.
