101 Pct.Collecting For Hurricane Noel Victims In Dominican Republic

Officer Juan Nunez, of the 101 Precinct's community affairs office, stands with some of the donations to be sent to the Dominican Republic as part of the Hurricane Noel relief effort.

There were 79 reported dead and 62,000 people left homeless when Hurricane Noel slammed into the Dominican Republic on October 29. As a result, the community affairs officers of the 101 Precinct - in conjunction with other precincts - are collecting food and clothing to send to the area.

"I heard about it, and I figured I could get something started [at the precinct]," said Juan Nunez, a community affairs officer at the 101.

Clothing such as pants, shirts, sneakers and boots, as well as nonperishable food - canned food and bottled water - will be appreciated.

Area residents interested in helping can drop off items at the 101 Precinct House at 16-12 Mott Avenue, or wherever they see one of the flyers. They can also call Nunez or his partner, Officer George Torres of the precinct's community affairs unit, at 718-868- 3441.
