Flight 587 Sixth Anniversary Monday, 11/12
The annual memorial service marking the sixth anniversary of the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 will be held this upcoming Monday morning, November 12, at the Flight 587 Memorial, located at Beach 116 Street and the boardwalk.

The memorial service will begin at 9 a.m. and will include an appearance by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. There will be a moment of silence and tolling of the bells at 9:16 a.m. The names of the 265 victims will then be read and honored.

Similar to last year, the city is providing bus transportation for family members and the Mayor's Office says the buses will depart after the memorial service. However, sources say the city is anticipating that at least some of those who attend the memorial will want to visit the crash site and/or attend Mass at St. Francis de Sales, as in years past.

American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into Belle Harbor on November 12, 2001, killing all 260 people onboard and five people on the ground.
