Time Is Running Out For NYS Trooper Exam

The New York State Police have confirmed that over 16,000 applicants have registered for the upcoming State Trooper exam, including 3,000 from New York City. The registration deadline for the exam is December 1, 2007.

The recruiting campaign has been ongoing since June 2007, and State Police Troop NYC Commander, Major Michael A. Kopy, believes that this is an opportunity for all.

"The position of Trooper represents a tremendous opportunity to men and women who are interested in a law enforcement career," Major Kopy said.

Trooper starting salary is $50,374, reaching 77,218 after five years of service. The exam is expected to be held in January and February of next year.

The basic requirements include being between the ages of 20-30, at least 60 college credits, a valid NYS driver's license and a clean criminal record with no felony convictions.

Anyone interested in applying should visit the NYS Police website, NYTROOPER.com before the December 1 deadline.
