JCCRP Breakfast Awards Bravest And Finest

Two members of New York City's uniformed services were honored last week, as the Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula recognized them for their service to the Rockaway community.
Police Officer Kevin Campbell, of the 101 Precinct, and Firefighter James Byrne, of Ladder 121, both received JCCRP's public service award at the organization's annual Legislative Breakfast on October 28.
Officer Campbell joined the NYPD in 1999 and was assigned to the 101 Precinct in February 2000. For six and one-half years, he was a midnight patrol officer. He became part of the community-policing unit at the precinct in 2006.
Firefighter Byrne, who lives in Belle Harbor with his wife and four sons, has been assigned to Ladder 121 since he joined the FDNY 11 years ago.

On January 26, 2006, Byrne and his company were fighting a fire on Beach 40 Street and Beach Channel Drive. Upon hearing the calls of a fellow firefighter, and without any regard for his own safety, Byrne rescued his colleague, who was trapped in the hallway of the multi-story building.
