Thomas L. Phelan
Retired

Thomas Phelan, a former Rockaway resident, died October 19.

Phelan served his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from New York City's Department of Sanitation and Peninsula Hospital Center. Phelan was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 378.

He was preceded in death by Catherine Pappas (Gregory), John, Jean Marie Jackson and Kevin Patrick.

Phelan is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Costa); sons, William (Indira), Thomas A. (Diane), and James (Christine); daughters, Patricia Resnick (Joseph), Anna Parks (John), Maryann Donohue (John), and Joan Hess (Daniel); 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grand; sister, Mary O'Connor (Neil); and brother, Gerard.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Vanella's Funeral Chapel in Oceanside. AFuneral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 29 at 9:45 a.m., at St. Christopher's Church in Baldwin. Interment will be at St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Lawrence.
