Vladimir Putin
Dear Editor,

Prior to World War II, the Soviet dictator Josef Stalin made a deal with the devil in the person of Adolf Hitler. This blunder was a great contributor to the death of 55 million people during the years 1939-1945, including about 20 million citizens of the Soviet Union. History is a great teacher for those who are able and willing to learn from mistakes made, and that may prevent repeats of disasters like World War II.

Almost 70 years later, the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the disciple of the late dictator Stalin, is walking down the same path of his mentor, by embracing Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Russian President has chosen a path obviously leading to a disaster that may be even costlier in human lives and resources than World War II.

Does Mr. Putin really believe that the doctrines of Iran and Russia are similar to each other, or that they can exist in peace, side by side? He, like Stalin, is due for a rude awakening, since the systems of Iran and Russia are even more dissimilar than those of communism and fascism.

Let us hope that history will judge Mr. Putin more kindly than his predecessors, the dictators Hitler and Stalin.

JOSEPH CEDER
