Sorrentino Flag Football Kicks Off 2007 Opening Day

Sorrentino Center Sports Director Stan Brown speaks with members of Team LBH (Lost Battalion Hall) after a particularly tough loss on October 13.
The P.A.L. / N.F.L. Parks & Recreation and the Sorrentino Recreation Center, are the proud hosts for the 2007 fall flag football program, which began last Saturday morning at O'Donahue Park.

In the Rockaways, Flag Football is a religion that everyone practices on Saturdays. Flag Football is a game that teaches the fundamentals of N.F.L. football without any acts of tackling. It teaches sportsmanship and the rules are easy to understand.

All games are being played at O'Donohue Park on Beach 17 Street starting at 10:30 a.m. in the morning. There is an 8-11 year-old division and a 12-14 year-old division. Games will also be played at 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

In the first week of action in the 8-11 division, Sorrentino Grimey defeated Team deuce and Team G-Way shutdown Team LBH (Lost Battalion Hall).

In the 12-14 division, Team G-Way beat Team Green Sox and the Sorrentino Ravens were victorious over Team Deuce. The coaches are: Stan Brown (Grimey), Robert Lindo (Ravens), Isaac Parsee (Deuce), Earl Miller (Green Sox), LaQuan Middleton (GWay) and Julio Morales (Grimey).
