Family Diabetes Awareness Day

Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions on the Rockaway Peninsula. This disease affects all ages, races, and socioeconomic groups. There is no cure for diabetes. Some people living with diabetes are living healthy lives by proactively managing their disease though lifestyle choices and medication. Many people are unaware that they have the disease.

Family Diabetes Awareness Day will be celebrated on Saturday, November 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at PS 253, located at 1307 Central Avenue, Far Rockaway. Those present will be able to attend cooking demonstrations, nutritional counseling, free health screening and presentations. In addition, lunch will be provided at no charge.

For further information, or to request an accommodation, call Penelope Chin at St John's Episcopal Hospital at 718-868-7750 or e-mail pchin@ehs.org.
